Abstract:

In order to study the immunological phenomena developing in the porcine livers perfused with human blood, investigations were carried out on 2 patients during extracorporeal liver perfusion and 3 in vitro perfusions. Trapping of platelets, leukocytes, and retention of hemagglutinins to pig erythrocytes and lymphocytes was found in the livers. This occurred simultaneously with de-terioration of liver function and increase in its blood flow resistance.
