Arrested, tortured, and accused of activities against the new government, they were sentenced to many years in prison or to death. While a waiting the executions, they wrote official, censored letters to their families, and secret messages if possible. The first were never sent, the second sometimes reached the recipients. The language of these letters forms the basis of this research. In their letters, convicts wrote requests, thanks, and farewells, shared their reflections on God, faith, and death, family values and their dramatic future. They gave vent to their emotions and feelings, which, thanks to the efforts of their families and historians, spoke out years later. The article interprets these texts using the methodology of the ‘linguistic image of the world’ developed by the Lublin Ethnolinguistic School.}, title={Listy z celi śmierci – językowy obraz więziennej traumy skazańców komunistycznego aparatu represji}, type={Text}, URL={http://rcin.org.pl./Content/238147/WA303_274446_A52-KH-R-129-4_Jastrzebska.pdf}, volume={129}, number={4}, journal={Kwartalnik Historyczny}, publisher={Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute of History Polish Academy of Sciences}, keywords={communist repressive apparatus, death row, linguistic image of the world, letters, trauma, political prisoners - Poland - personal narratives, political prisoners - Poland - 1945-1970 - correspondence, prisons - Poland - 1945-1970 - personal narratives, capital punishment - Poland - history - 20th century, political repression - Poland - 1945-1970, Poland.
