I). It was found that this inf1uence may vary greatly depending on the abundance and age structure of D. polymorpha and the habitat conditions. In some lakes the D. polymorpha population possesses potential capacity to filter the whole of the water in the epilimnion in a relatively short time from a few to a 1arge number of days (fig. 2) the amounts of their excreta are also large in these lakes (fig. 3).
