 abstract={The article presents findings regarding food supply problems, including in particular shortages of meat in a broad contexts of Poland’s political, cultural and social history in 1945-1989. An analysis of the “meat issue” in the policy of the communist authorities was made (measures to reduce demand, increase supply and punish abuse in institutions involved in the production, distribution and sale of meat). An attempt was made to determine the role of meat in the lives of Polish families, social reactions to its deficiencies (from jokes about food supplies to the role of meat short-ages in the genesis and course of anti-system rebellions in the Polish People’s Republic).},
