 abstract={The purpose of the article was to define the role of spatial planning in preventing the expansion of industrial farms. The activities of large-scale farms are associated with a number of nuisances faced by the inhabitants of the neighboring areas, as well as with a negative impact on individual components of the environment. The aim of the study was to indicate the role of planning documents along with the guidelines contained in them and arrangements in preventing the expansion of industrial farms. Only detailed planning documents are able to prevent spatial and social conflicts caused by the creation of farms in inappropriate places and will contribute to reducing the nuisance caused by areas of specialised animal production. The authorities of rural municipalities should strive for the gradual preparation of local plans, which are an effective solution for maintaining spatial order.},
