The article is devoted to the first stage of interest in this disease in Europe in the 17th century. The main subject of interest is the extensive treatise “De plica quam Poloni gwozdziec, Roxolani kołtunum vocant liber”, whose author was a well-known professor of medicine from Padua, Ercole Sassonia (Hercules Saxonia).
