 abstract={The text is a critical review of a synthesis of the history of interwar Poland by Włodzimierz Mędrzecki. It argues that the modern/traditional dichotomy, upon which the author bases his explanation of Poland’s socioeconomic problems, is in many respects defined questionably. The article calls for more extensive use of comparative analysis and the application of the methodology of postcolonial studies in research concerning Polish history.},
