 abstract={Okół, initially described bysources as a “new town” (nova civitas), in thefirst half of the fourteenth century, functioned within the Krakow settlement complex as an autonomous territory. It is generally accepted that Okół was established due to a decision of Prince Władysław the Short. However, its origin and legal status continue to be the subject of complex historical debates, significantly affecting the general understanding of the processes of colonisation under German law in Polish territories.},
