The article refers to two previous texts that have appeared in the last issue of the quarterly “Village and Agriculture“ (3/2013). Three levels of analysis are introduced and are related, firstly, to the conceptualization of development and progress in sociology against a background of the evolution of social thought, secondly, with the concept of sustainable development in the dimensions of the concept and ideology and, thirdly, the growing importance of culture in the development process, with particular attention to the relationship between culture and the economy.
