It operated intermittently throughout the nineteenth century, subordinated to the larger BFBS agencies in Vienna or St Petersburg. The organisation expanded its operations in the interwar period under the leadership of Aleksander Enholc and continued to grow after the Second World War. In 1967, Barbara Enholc-Narzyńska was appointed as its head.
