Particularly large part was dedicated to the Polish accents during the event. The Polish-language periodicals eagerly recounted the matters of organization of a distinct Polish art section, the performances of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, the lecture delivered by Helena Modrzejewska, the reaction of the audience to the Polish art exhibition, and finally, the success which the organization of the Polish Day turned out to be during the exposition in Chicago. The author draws attention to the universal topics, which showed up in the Polish magazines, such as fascination for the development of civilization and technical innovations on the one hand, and the exoticism and downright tawdry entertainment on the other hand. The former was embodied by the White City built particularly to the needs of the exhibition by the lake Michigan, the latter by the neighbouring entertainment district, Midway Plaisance.}, type={Text}, title={Obraz Światowej Wystawy Kolumbijskiej w prasie polskiej wydawanej w USA (w latach 1891–1894)}, URL={http://rcin.org.pl./Content/242321/WA303_279141_II16420_Sznapik.pdf}, keywords={emigration, Polish diaspora, Polish Americans, Polish periodicals - foreign countries - history, Polish-language press in the USA, end of the 19 th century, Chicago World’s Fair, Columbian Exposition, Polish Day, Poland - emigration and immigration - history - 19th century, Poland - emigration and immigration - history - 20th century, Polish people - foreign countries - history, Polish people - foreign countries - intellectual life - history}, }
