It discusses the most frequently appearing accusations, such as lack of competence in managing papers, miscreance, immorality, excessive religiosity, lack of patriotism, or the non-Polish origins of people hired in the editorial offi ces. These accusations, mostly untrue or impossible to verify solely based on mentions and articles in press, constitute a catalogue of fears of a Polish emigrant in the examined period. Although, the effectiveness of defamations and rumours in hurting other publishing houses cannot be easily estimated, the popularity of such type of content in the examined magazines indicates that their publication was profitable.}, type={Text}, title={Plotki, oszczerstwa i pomówienia jako metoda walki z konkurencją na łamach polskiej prasy emigracyjnej}, URL={http://rcin.org.pl./Content/242317/WA303_279139_II16420_Nowosielska.pdf}, keywords={Polish emigration, Polish diaspora, Polish periodicals - foreign countries - history, émigré press, rumour, defamation, competition, Poland - emigration and immigration - history - 19th century, Poland - emigration and immigration - history - 20th century, Polish people - foreign countries - history, Polish people - foreign countries - intellectual life - history}, }
