During the ‘thaw’ after Stalin died, the press was generally hostile to local apparatchiks. This article, however, was the result of the journalists’ collaboration with apparatchiks associated with the First Secretary of the Polish United Workers’ Party Warsaw Committee, Stefan Staszewski, from the ‘Puławy’ faction, targeting a representative of the party’s dogmatic (‘Natolin’) wing, Julian Tokarski. The article presents the fl ow of ideas that led to the creation of the Workers’ Council Movement in September–October 1956 and the formation of a key element of the October 1956 programme.}, title={Rewolucja odgórna?
