 abstract={In 1859, the increasing numer of Russians in Warsaw prompted officers stationed there to undertake efforts to establish a club. Founded the following year, it was intended to be a place of rest, relaxation, entertainment, and socialising for Russian officers. The club attracted both Russian and Polish residents of Warsaw, however, and only became a purely Russian institution a few years later. For a time, it played a significant role in the political, social, and cultural life of Russians in Warsaw and more widely in the Kingdom of Poland.},
