The material has been excerpted from Słownik nazwisk używanych w Polsce napoczątku XXI wieku (The Dictionary of Surnames Used in Poland at the Beginning of the 21st Century).The author analyses surnames derived from terms referring to craftsmen involved in professions suchas miller, butcher, baker or smith. The rich onomastic material shows variation both in the dialectmorphologicalaspect (Moeller of Low German origin and Mueller from High German dialects) and inthe lexical aspect, exemplified by the term denoting the butcher in various German dialects: Schlachter,Fleischer, Metzger or Metzler.
